| The flowmeter is composed of a metering box and a pair of elliptical gears installed in the metering box, together with the upper and lower cover plates to form a sealed initial moon cavity (which is not absolutely sealed due to the rotation of the gear) as the calculation unit of primary displacement. When the measured liquid enters the flow meter through the pipeline, a pair of gears are driven to rotate continuously due to the pressure difference generated at the inlet and outlet, and the liquid measured by the moon shaped cavity is continuously transported to the outlet. The product of the rotation number of the elliptical gear and four times of the displacement each time is the total flow volume of the measured liquid (see the principle figure). The flow measurement has nothing to do with the flow state of the fluid, because the elliptical gear flowmeter is driven by the pressure head of the measured medium to drive the elliptical gear to rotate.
The larger the viscosity of the medium, the smaller the leakage from the gear and metering space gap. Therefore, the larger the viscosity of the testing medium is, the smaller the leakage error is, and the better the measurement is.
The elliptical gear flowmeter has high measurement accuracy, which is suitable for measuring the flow rate of high viscosity medium, but it is not suitable for the fluid containing solid particles (the solid particles will block the gear, so that the flow can not be measured). If there is gas in the measured liquid medium, the measurement error will also be caused.
