how to calculate water flow rate?

The flow rate of liquid refers to the volume of fluid passing through a cross section of a pipe or open channel in unit time, also known as instantaneous flow rate, represented by Q. Formula: Q=Sv, unit: m^3/s or L/s. where S is the cross-sectional area (m^2) and v is the water velocity (m/s)

Taking cubic meters per second (m^3/s) as an example, it is simply understood as: how many cubic meters of water pass through a cross section of the pipeline in one second. For an incompressible fluid, the flow through the cross section is the same at every moment in steady flow

For a circular pipe, the volume of water is a cylinder, and the volume of the cylinder is V = base area S × height H. Here, the bottom area is the area S of the cross section of the pipe, and the height H=water velocity v×time t. Since it is a unit time, the time t is considered to be 1, so the flow rate Q=SH=Svt=Sv×1=Sv

The flow calculation method of square, trapezoidal or other cross-sections is the same, but the method of calculating the area S is different, which requires specific analysis.

If the unit is liters per second (L/s), the conversion formula is 1m^3/s=1000L/s

Of course, if we have a water flow meter, we can easily and intuitively understand the water flow and liquid flow. If you want to know the flow meter directly, please contact Winny: sales01@cxflowmeter.com
